Its interesting to record the start of harvest on our diary page, and this year, Carat Winter Barley was the first to be cut on the 13th. This was the same day as 2003. The last was cut in the photo on the 17th.
All was cut with a grain moisture below 12% and went straight into store to await movement.
Barley Straw was again baled by our regular contractor and will be destined for stock farms in South Wales.
Stacking the straw following baling limits the amount of bales which get wet if it rains and speeds up the loading onto lorry.
